Expo salutes
Search and
Rescue teams

STRANDED RIDERS on the gondola ski lift will be -

rescued next Tuesday, at Grouse Mountain. .

After- receiving’ the radio
emergency request at 10 a.m., a
Parks Canada alpine specialist will
hitch himself to a 30-metre rope.
Then dangling from a helicopter,
he will begin the rescue, using sl-
ings.

This isn’t a psychic prediction,
“but rather a planned rescue opera-
tion .to . highlight Search and
Rescue Week, May H to 18, at
Expo 86.

. Although most of the events are
“happening at the fair’s False Creek
site, four search: and rescue events
are planned on the North Shore,
including the alpine sling rescue.

The other Jocal events will be
held at the Pacific Maritime Train-
ing Institute in North Vancouver.

emergency training course.
