The report — “Regional Tratfic Growth — Trends, 1996-1999") — finds that region-wide teatfic volumes have increased by &% while the population rose by only half that number. Traffic in some areas is up by as much as 21%, the report also states. TransLink’s data shows that 45% of all adult trips are in single occupant vehicles. Adults use passenger vehicles for 75% of all the trips they take as opposed to transit or other modes of wansportation such as cycling or walking. Coho festival Set for unday MORE than 1,500 people took part in the Coho Walk, 300 runners turned out for the l4K Coho run, and celebrity chefs served 1,400 barbecued salmon din- ners at the Coho Festival Sunday last year. This year’s festival culmi- nates in a salmon barbecue and family fun day at Ambleside Park on Sunday, Sept. 10. The day begins at 7:45 a.m. with the 14-kilometre Coho Run from Lynn Valley Mall to Ambleside. An awards ceremony for the run will take place after a 10 a.m. pancake breakfast ($2) in the park. Ar 10 a.m. there will be a Squamish Nation blessing of the salmon ceremony, and from 10 am. to 2 p.m. a Coho Walk will follow the path of the salmon as they return home to spawn along the Capilano River, The big salmon barbecue cuns from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with food served up at $12 a dinner by community leaders and celebrities from the. world of media and sports. Activities throughout the day. include face painting, - button making, and a boun- cy castle for kids, juggling, live music, sports competi- ‘tions and emergency services displays. There are a large number of new activities planned this year: fire and police officers will be facing off in a soccer demonstration, Lions Gate Studios make-up and special effects mobile units, and a Coast Guard hovercraft will be on hand.
