the new human rights indus-
tey expansion plans is sim-
ple: Canadians, by and large,
don’t have the common
sense or the common deeen-
cy to treat their fellows with
dignity and fairnes

Pension over principle

Dear Editor:

Napoleon Bonaparte once
declared that in politics stupid-
ity is not a handicap, That must
explain why the Canadian
Alliance (CA) decided to do
something stupid like flip-flop
on the MP pension issue.

After railing for vears
against these gold-plated MP
pensions, the CA leadership
conspired with the government
to make sure a new pension-
sweetening deal could be
rushed through the House at
top speed. And now s group of
CA MPs (fortunately not all) is
getting set to jump in the

trough,
So not only has the
Canadian Alliance surrendered
its principles and its credibility,
it also provided pertect: cover
for the Liberals to increase their
own remuneration at taxpayer
expense. You might say this was
one of those rare occasions
when the stupid thing and the
unprincipled = thing — came
together in a grand coalition.
That's nor the kind of
alliance Canadian taxpayers are
looking for.
