AVRIL MAYNE ... youngest of
five ended up helping her mother a
lot.

ALTHOUGH STOKER Farm was sold in 1982 to make
way for the Somerset Green retirement condominiums, the
well-known landmark at Lonsdale and 29th Street still has a
living legacy on the North Shore.

Stoker sisters Dorrie Taylor,
Wendy McDonald and Avril
Mayne grew up on the farm and
still live in North Vancouver to-
day.

“1 had a lot of fun in my grow-
ing-up years,”” recalls Mayne, 62,
although she noted that being the
youngest of five, ‘‘I ended up be-
ing the one that would have to help
my mother.*’

Another sister, Peggy Steele,
lives in Dunbar, and brother
Rupert died three years ago.

McDonald, 66, estimates that
the farm at one time had 30 cows,

The 2S-room home was original-
ly built on five acres by the sisters’
maternal grandfather, Captain Ar-
