Osaka Japanese restaurant
adds another welcome cos-
mopolitan ingredient to the
Gallant Avenue strip in Deep
Cove village centre.

The compact 30-seater sits
next to Cheti’s restaurant on
the south side of Gallant.

Its interior features clean
lines, and white walls trimmed
in pine and bamboo. There’s 2
couple of booth-like contigu-
rations separated with wood-
grain dividers, some open
tables and a few stools at a
small sushi bar,

Nota whole lot of atmos:
phere — AM radio provides
the soundtrack and a single
waitress handles the dining
room for a pair of sushi chets
— but the food is good and
the service is brisk and cordial.

The menu is fairly extensive

for a small restaurant. ft
includes all manner of sushi
{temaki, nigiri, makil, sashimi.
tempura, terivaki, aden, don-
bur and soba.

Good bets are the various
Osaka combo sushi plates ($6
to S4)), which provide ready-
made cross-sections of menu
items for Choice-challenged
diners.

For larger parties, the
restaurant's provocative:
sounding Love Trays ($25 to
$55) ofler hearty platters
plugged with Caltornia rolls.
salmon maki, dynamite rolls,
tuna maki, tempura, sushi and
sashimi.

Placemats are decorated in
four-colour sushi samples and
include some Japanese phrases
and translations for diners to
attempt after downing some
liquid courage in the form of
strong Japanese tea.
