Vancouver, Home
Builders’ Association:
Hold a garage sale to
get rid of unwanted
household items.

no sense to transport to your
new home junk or clothes you
never wear.

“By taking time to go
through things now, you
won’t have to pack or move
them,” he says. “And if you’re
paying movers, a smaller load
will save you money.”

First, go through your
home, being sure to include
the garage and organize
things into groups: Items you
want to try to sell; items to
give away; and items to be
thrown away.

Make clear, readable signs
with large print that includes
the dates and address of the
sale. Use hard cardboard and
secure signs tightly so they
don’t fold or flap in the wind.
Make sure you gather them
up after your garage sale.

hunters hit the streets carly

- up. Mark prices clearly on all
items and price things reason-
ably. The object should be to
get rid of things and make a

little money, not to score big

After the sale, contact one
of your local charities and
donate the unsold items and
other things you’ve marked to
give away. Many charities will
send a truck by to pick up
your donations, particularly
large items like furniture and
appliances.

NORTH Shore residents and paint-
ing contractors can drop off leftover
household paint for safe disposal at
a free collection and exchange
Saturday.

Consumers and contractors may drop off
latex and oil-based paints, shellacs and stains
on Saturday, Sept. 28, bernveen 9 am. and 3
p.m. at the northwest corner of the Lonsdale
recreation centre parking lot, 2300 Lonsdale
Ave., North Van.

A limit of 10 paint containers per vehicle is
requested. Any reusable paint collected will be
set aside and offered free to the public on a first
come, first served basis.

The event is sponsored by the E Paint
Care Associati (PCA), an association of
more than 55 paint companies that started the
government-approved paint stewardship pro-
gram in September 1994.

At this time, the pregram does not handle
anti-fouling, industrial or automotive paint or

aerosol cans. Nor does it accept other house-
hold hazardo stes such as solvents, paint
thinners, pesticides, poisons or pharmaceuticals.
The PCA has established 18 permanent
paint — collection
depots in the Lower
Mainland, and plans
to open a paint col-
lection facility on
the North Shore by
