Not guilty A NORTH Vancouver man, facing weapons charges stemming from an incident in which a rifle was allegedty pointed at a school bus driver on the Upper Levels Highway last year, has been found not guilty in B.C. Supreme Court. Daniel Allen Merrifield, 24, was found act guilty Nov. 27 of possession of a dangerous weapon and pointing a firearm. A charge of possession of a restricted weapon was stayed. Meanwhile earlier this year Vladimir Czamek, 24, of North Vancouver, was fined $400 and had his driver's licence suspended for one year afier he pleaded guilty to a drinking and driving-related charge in connection with the incident. Tke court stayed three weapons-related charges laid against Czamek. Said Czamek, ‘I had to live with the convicted emo- tion for something that ! was never convicted for. Basically in the eyes of society they see a psycho-maniac pointing an assault rifle at a school bus full of childrea, which never occurred. “Basically we were just coming back from target prac- tising in Squamish and my friend was in the back seat of the car and my rifie was in the front seat of the car. “My friend woke up from the back seat and jumped into the front and because I was just driving « car the rifle was ia the way of his legs. He went te reposition it.” Woman jailed A 33-YEAR-OLD Vancouver woman was sentenced Dec. 4 in North Vancouver provincial court ¢o six months in jail for theft over $1,000. Appearing before Judge "Youg Moss, Wynda Marie Scott pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1,000 from King Kubota Services itd., a North Vancouver-based contractor service. - Alter her release from prison, Scott must pey $200 each month in cestituticn until her probation is _com- pleted. Mover fined ALL THE Right Moves Moving and Storage Co. Lid. made a wrong move when the company’s head failed to comply with the Income Tax Act. Michael E. Cox and All the Right Moves were fined $2,000 in North Vancouver provincial court on Dec. 9, Cox, 39, pleaded guilty to failing to provide the Ministry of National Revenue with financial information by Nov. 6, 1990 as was requested. The ministry required information such as shareholder transactions and bank statements for the period from ‘Aug. 1, 1988 to Aug. 31, 1990. Rabbit torched “THE WEST Vancouver Police are investigating a Dec. ‘H motor vehicle arson in the 100-block of Keith Road. West Vancouver Fire Department firefighters were called to the scene just after 6 p.m. A 1978 VW Rabbit was completely destroyed by fire. According to a police spokesman, the car was torched with gasoline. The owner of the car saw the suspect and gave chase on foot. But the arsonist escaped in a waiting car. , The investigation into the fire continues. Vehicle recovered THE WEST Vancouver Police arrested a Sechelt man Dec. 10 in connection with the recovery of a stolen vehi- ele, - According to a police spokesman, a 1989 Ford Fiesta that had been reported stolen in Sechelt on Nov. 26 was recovered in the Gleneagles Elementary School parking tot at 4 p.m. Charged with possession of stolen property over $1,900 is Colin Nathan Joe, 20, of Sechelt. Joe is scheduled to appear Jan. 30 in West Vancouver provincial court. No rodeos PETTING ZOOS, circuses and rodeos will no longer be welcome in North Vancouver District now that council has agreed unanimously to draft an Animal Performance Bylaw. While travelling mall shows in which animals spend most of their lives in a crowded trailer wiil be prohibited under the bylaw, council members pointed out that the district's Maplewood Farm and other agricultural displays or shows, as well as police dog trials and pet shows, would not be affected by the new bylaw.
