Shop with care when purchasing “BE PREPARED when you shop” is the advice of the carpet experts. Carpet salespeople are trained to help you uncover what you want your carpet to do for your home. It is essential that the carpet selected be suited to the use and wear it will receive. Take time to think through some of the essentials before shopping. In all instances, end-use should be the key factor in selecting color and texture. Traffic patterns, actual room usage and color preferences are critical elements of your decision. Experts recommend that you give some thought to such questions as: Will the room be subjected to heavy traffic? How many children will use the room and how often? Will your family and guests cat or drink in this room? How important is elegance? How important is cleaning? By answering these questions before you begin shopping, you will be better prepared for discussions with your retailer when you make your purchase. Equate price with service — Don't economize on the high-traffic, heavy-wear floors in your home. Stairs, halls, family rooms and other high-traffic arcas mew carpet call for the best in quality that you can afford. This means a carpet with a pile weight and density combination that’s sufficient to withstand your traffic patterrs. A lightweight, medium grade carpet will probably be adequate for rooms that get less use while allowing you to devote more of your budget to the high-wear rooms. Use economy grade carpet only in areas that receive little use, such as in a guest room. Beware of bargains — Most retailers offer legiti- mate sales at various times. However, beware of unbelievable and unreasonable bargains and advertis- ing claims. Inexpensive carpet that wears out quickly can prove to be more costly in the long run. Carpet is similar tc any other purchase you make; generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Consider cost per year — As with any long term investment, the true cost of the carpet must reflect its length of satisfactory service. Simple arithmetic pro- ves that a carpet that lasts ten years represents a better value than a less expensive carpet that lasts only two or three years. And remember, installation costs are the same regardless of quality. 37 - Friday, September 23, 1988 - North Shore News E:ELECTROWUX | CANADA Sales & Service ARASTOO KHOSHKHESAL Office 980-6507 Home 985-6833 iN DON'T SMOKE f British Columbia Lung Association (—ROLLSHUT TERS ——Tog 2: Element * ‘gonteol the amount: = ot aes protest you.
