Quebec ‘City: isn't Paris

Dear Editor:

t was quite ‘interested by Mr.
David ° Wishart's: article entitled
Quebee City: closer than Paris, ¢
almost as French , which is indeed
a very good guided tour to a vety
charming city.

This article would have; been
better if the author had restrained
himself to providing touristic tips.
Unfortunately, he went. beyond
that and somchow drew a parallel
between this North American city
of 603,267 inhabitants . (including

. dts metropolitan area), and Paris, a
European capital of 10 million

people, furthermore ; discovering |

the amazing fact that the local
Quebecers speak * better English
than do the Parisians...

anything ‘extraordinary in their
ability to speak the major official

their French in Quebec, they could

later’, communicate more casily
with the Parisians...who, by the
way, have no reason to be bilin-
gual,

Cultural, historical, . artistic
treasures are innumerable i in Paris

won't see u.single fairway from the
top of the Eiffel Tower,,! agree to
that, no more than you would like-
ly perccive a fairway from atop the
Empire State Building or, for that
matter, from ithe CN Tower in

Toronto.’ Let Us. be serious: can

you honestly imagine a galf course
in the middle of Rome or Paris?
