Triplets double refugee family |, CZESLAW Krys escaped the political turmoil of Poland only to run headlong into the family tur- moil of triplets. The 31-year-old Polish refugee bundled up his wife Graznya and his one-year- old son Mark and fled War- saw early in 1984 because of what he described as the bleak economic and political circumstances currently besetting his native country. After waiting six-months in Rome to get immigration clearance into Canada, the Krys family arrived in Van- couver in December. They settled originally in Van- West End, but couver’s moved to North Vancouver two months ago. For the Krys family, their flight to the West has been booby-trapped with sur- prises, the biggest of which arrived August 8 when Graznya gave birth to triplets in Vancouver's Grace Hospital. ‘Not just a surprise,’ Krys said, ‘‘but the biggest surprise of our lives.”’ Though Krys is qualified as a physiotherapist in Poland, he cannot ply his trade in B.C. until he writes and passes Physiotherapy Association of B.C. exams. He has therefore been unable to find steady work since his arrival. The three-member Krys family has survived thus far on a minimal monthly allowance from the Im- migrant Reception Centre and the good graces and generosity of Polish relatives and friends. Both charities are welcome, yet difficult for the hard-working and self- sufficient Krys to accept. With his family literally doubling overnight, Krys, though giddy with joy, now stands evermore squarely behind the financial eight- ball. He shrugs off his situa- tion with a smile saying he is lucky, saying he is blessed. “We have a new country. We have a beautiful family, which is suddenly much big- ger. How can we be unhap- yo"? Krys is scheduled to write his physiotherapy exams on November 15. NEWS photo Terry Peters THE birth of triplets in August has doubled the size of the Krys family of North Vancouver.
