It arrival, lo and behold, we discover ourselves to be swept up into its liveliness. All around us life is being born again. That scraggly, skinny, deadly brown mess of badly arranged left-overs from another ume, all of a sudden starts being the begin- ning of a gorgeous mass of hydrangeas, even though we have not turned a hand to facilitate the miracle. For several months now we have done not one little thing to care for or warm or feed or encourage those whirring lit- tle bits of life which we call humming birds.
