RED CROSS REVIEWS 1982 LGH leads blood donors THE ANNUAL MEETING of the North Vancouver branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society was held March 7 at St. Andrews United Church, 1044 St. George's. Officers re-elected were R.E. Pooley (president), C.A. Johnston (vice- president), R.H. Clarke (treasurer) and J.-A. Mackay (secretary). During 1982 a total of 5,109 units of blood was donated in North Van- couver. The Captain John Cates Shield awarded an- pually to group with highest number of donors, went to the staff of Lions Gate Hospital, with RCMP and firemen close behind. The administration of L.G.H. was_ gratefully thanked for its cooperation in holding monthly blood donor clinics at the hospital. Clinics at Capilano College, Capilano Mall, Carson Graham School and Wind- sor School were also gratifyingly successful. The loan of sick room equipment to out-patients (wheelchairs, canes, commodes, etc.) totalled 254 pieces. Fund raising by the efforts of the knitters and sewers of Aid International and Domestic with bazaars and bake sales totalled $1539.29. The Council of the District of North Vancouver was thanked for providing good facilities for volunteer groups at 600 West Queens Road. More police dogs sought in WV POLICE DOG demon- strations have become a regular feature in West Vancouver elementary schools since the West Van police dog section was formed last year. The purpose of the demonstrations is to show students the role and paces a police dog is put through each day, and how police dogs can greatly assist not only the police but the community as well. Other community groups interested in seeing a dog demonstration are asked to contact the West Van Police Department (922-4141). Additional dogs are also needed for a training course starting March 27. Any owner wishing to donate a dog to the: police department for this course should call Staff Sergeant Ed Pruner at the above number. Dogs offered for the course must be German Shepherds, male, un- neutered and 10-18 months old.
