Showtime is & p.m. WHEN Broadway showman Jerry Herman created the Jerry’s Girls musical review, he had star power to draw audi- ences to his production. Chita Rivera, Leslie Uggams and Dorothy Laudon were the three leery stats of his revue, which featured per- formances from his greatest musicals, including Mame, Flello Doltyand La Cane Aux Folles. When North Shore actor Gillian Racber brings the revue to Capilano College's Arbutus stage this week, she'll be show- casing a cast of unknowns. Barber directs and choreo- graphs theatre students Margot J. Leviton, Natalee Fera and Laura Dorosh in the lead roles, with Sylvie Gosse, Thea ‘Tilston, Zarrah Holvick and Lana Thomas in the chorus. And while their names aren’t likely to illicit instant recognition among theatre audiences, “ ‘Gillian’s girls’ sure can sing and danice,” says their director. The British Columbia Youth Choir will perform under the direction of Diane Loomer in concert during the choral federa- tion’s Chorfest 2G00 in Vancouver this Juz. A quartet of singers will be chosen to represent each of the ~ federation’s 14 regions. The choir wili live together at the Jericho Beach Hostel and rehearse downtown in Christ Church Cathedral. Leomer is best known for her work with her own award-win- ning Chor Leoni Men’s Choir and with Elektra Women’s Choir, which she co-founded and co-directs. She has conducted several other provincial youth choirs as well as the National Youth Choir and recently received thé order of Canada in recognition of her achievements in choral music across the country.
