It had a number of exhibitions each year but it didn’: have much in the way of special events and it didn’t publish catalogues,” says Love. The gallery also received very little outside funding, a situation that Love has worked long and hard to change. Although she takes litde credit for her achievements, the gallery now receives funding from Canada Council, various federal departments, the province of B.C. and a host of foundations, in addition to local municipal funding chac includes West Vancouver. Love says there are pvo main rea- sons for the gallery's increased national profile: publishing and self- curated exhibitions. “We publish about six exhibition catalogues or artists’ books each year and we do cry co get them out into the world. ; “Also we circulate two or three exhibitions that we organize here and we are just starting to send our shows outside the country.” Love says it is difficult for her co pick favorite shows from the many that have come and gone in the last 12 years. “For me, one of the most impor- tant was a four-project program we “Te included owo gallery eshibi- tions, a remount of a Tamahnous ‘Theatre play and the mounting of an operatic installation piece in collabo- ration with the Western Front.” In some ways thar project reflects Love's own viewpoint on photogra- phy and arc and her commitment to programming those things that fall at the very edge of the gallery’s man- date. “We shouldn't always think about it in terms of fine art, as a precious commodity, but think about how we are surrounded by it in our everyday lives and how chat affects the way we see and show the programming, “Sometimes we should question what we consider to be art and how we use it.” Love is excited about the possibili- ties opening up with the hiring of a new Art Education Coordinator responsible for an active program with not only the high schools but also the colleges and the universities. “My hope is that this program can be developed and expanded and that we will be able to contribute in a very meaningful way to our youth learn- ing about cultural opportunity in Vancouver, B.C. and Canada.” Love's biggest problems are with the facilicy in Presentation House itself. “It's no secret that the board has begun to pursue a move out of this building to a new location,” she says and lists some of the physical prob- lems facing the gallery: no elevator to the third floor; no temperature and humidity controls on the third floor; summer heat that can reach 100°F when the roof heats up; very lictle storage space. “A new building is the next big PGS QUALITY FEATURES ¢ High-Temp baked-on enamel! paint * Heavy duty commercial grade stainiess steel side shelves * Heavy duty porcelainized steel Vari Grids™ * Pre-formed ceramic Flare Guard Radiant Rock™ * Flare-Guard Grates™ « Designed for easy assembly * 10 YEARS on all aluminum components * 10 YEARS on all stainless steel supports and side shelves *5 YEARS on burners, Flare Guard™ radiant shields, porcelainized steel cooking grids, and burner controls «1 YEAR on electronic ignition * 1 YEAR on galvanized steel components AVAILABLE IN STAINLESS STEEL OR BLACK PORTABLE CART FOR MODEL K30 OR KAO, NATURAL GAS OR PROPANE NOW AVAILABLE WITH REAR ROTISSERIE BURNER & SIDE BURNER Great Trinitron prices did in the spring of 1992 which addressed the problem of violence against women and domestic vio- lence. mauene are springing into action.
