In my late teens, four of us owned a cabin on Hollyburn Ridge ~ straight up the mountain from Peppi's. From Kerrisdale, we would take the Interurban Tram, then a little ferry, I think it held 30 people, to the foot of 25th Ave. in West Vancouver, The Dundarave Pier, with 50 pounds on our backs and hike up Hollyburn, passing this lovely seafront building which had been built in 1912. By the way, in those days, the waterfront in West Vancouver was the place the wealthy Shaughnessy denizens had their summer homes. We didn't have a summer home, but we did have a winter home - on the top of Hollyburn, high above Peppi's. Peppi's was famous even then, although it was not called Peppi's, but ‘The Clachan, a combination tearcom and inn - always charming ~ we skiers envied the diners at their landmark seaside inn, but it wasn't until later that [| became a regular patron — in the 50s, when it was famous for spaghetti! I remember well an evening with the great actress Katharine Cornell who was a close friend of Pat Prouds. Pat was a leading journalist on The Province and she lived near Peppi's — we were going to an evening party at Pat's and took Miss Cornell to dinner at Peppi's before the party — she loved the exquisite view — the ships passing in front of the windows, the sound of the waves breaking on the beach. A couple of years later we took Miriam Hopkins to Peppi's, and | remember the scramble for autographs, since Miriam was a big movie star at the time. Livingston dined happily at Peppi's spectacular sunsets, and violent on one of their trips to Vancouver, windstorms — this ever changing where Mary was born — they felt it canvas. was like being in another world ~ the peace, the nature, and the excellent food and service. 1 think the last celebrity 1 brought ta Peppi's was Ginger Rogers. Ginger didn't drink alcohol ~ and she wanted her pasta "al dente"! She was thrilled at the sight of the great Ocean Liners arriving in the dark, and the smaller boats, on their way to Victoria or the Gulf Islands, reflecting their lights on the water. You couldn't go to Peppi's without experiencing a great feeling ef romance and adventure, as you Icok out the windows and watch the see traffic, silently gliding by in front of your eyes. A unique adventure today, to see the huge white cruise ships coming and going — and those ein ey = vi Limited time offer, come and enjoy any menu entree Name: Phone: _ LUNCH, BRUNCH or DINNE {Not valid Saturdays, or on Easter Sunday) ?
