w) SPORTS Netball clubs face off THE CAPILANO Netball Club will challenge the Checkers Club in a game Dec. 6 to represent the Vancouver zone in the B.C. Winter Games to be held in Duncan next February. Playing out of the Dunbar Community Centre, the Checkers Club has represented the zone for the past few years at the Winter Games. However, the recently revived Capilano Netball! Club are keen to mount a challenge. The key game will be played in the tennis bubble at the Delta Town and Country. Netball is a fast-paced passing game for women and girls of all ages. The game is similar to baskei- ball in some ways but rules differ in that there is ne coniact nor any running or dribbling with the ball which must be passed within three seconds. At least three members of a team must handle the ball as it passes from one end of the court to the other. Goals are scored — one point for each — by shooting through a hoop 10 feet off the zround without the aid of a backboard. Only two designated players on the team are permitted to shoot. Netball is played extensively throughout the Commonwealth and 22 countries will be represented at the World Championships to be held in Sydney, Australia, next July. | LEASE FOr LESS == JIN PATTISON, Women Blues come up from behind From page 18 three pointers gave the Blues another comfortable lead, but lit- but who looked rather fearsome, led her squad with 18.
