onight is a very special night in the life of one of our town’s most gifted and dedicated youny artists. Joy Metcalfe tells all ... When Swiss-born Sabina. Alleman was seven years old, she made the decision to become a ballet dancer. Through her grow- ing years she trained and studied under the best of the National Ballet’s teachers and choreographers, never waivering in her goal. After years of practice and study, she became their First Soloist. She remembers being in the corps de ballet for ‘“‘Don Quix- ote’ at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in October of 1983 when the ballet was doing a fundraiser at the Q.E.T. for the opening of Ronald McDonald House. Karen Kain was supposed to star but pulled a muscle and had to relinquish the role at the last mo- ment. But she did manage to show up at Ronald McDonald's rib- bon-cutting and door-opening celebration that morning. That was also the production that saw leading business types like Southborough’s Frank Palmer, the president of Palmer Jarvis Advertising, Herb Capozzi and Murray Pezim pay $1,500 each toward the fundraising efforts, just to be part of the ballet on opening night, dressed as monks. It was definitely NOT type-casting! Sabina also happily recalls her performance as “Hannah’’ in Franz Lehar’s ‘‘The Merry Widow,” opposite the renowned Frank Augustyn, which was hailed by the critics. She danced in the mixed repertoire on Wednesday night, and in “Sleeping Beauty” tonight. Her proud mother and father, realtor Hedy and Kurt Alleman of Kurt’s Clock Repairs on Marine Drive in West Van are in San Fran for the performances and have the best possible seats in the house! The rest of Sabina’s news is that, at the end of the ballet season, she leaves for further shows — in Iceland.
