To end up with $20,000 and 750 runners was just great.” Eastwood said. The !0-kilometre Mountain Ex- press featured a race course of varied lerrain through the downhill and cross-country areas of the mountain. Approximately 100 volunteers helped with race-day organization. Participants included 12 members of the Squamish Indian Band, who ran in memory of Eli Lewis. The six-year-old boy died March 6 of acute leukemia. Money raised fram the Moun- tain Express will zo to the Cana- dian Cancer Society for leukemia research and io help fund a Cana- dian Red Cross) bone marrow doner unit. AWARENESS RAISED In addition to raising money, the race was organized to help raise the awareness of the various forms at leukemia research and treatment of the disease in the Greater Van- couver area. The run was co-sponsaied by the Canadian Cancer Society, Cypress Bowl Recreations Lid., Labatt's and Pepsi. Eastwood said the run would definitely be held again next year at Cypress Bowl. “We had great cooperation with the people at Cypress Bowl." he said. Stanton won her medals in three versonal and two relay events: the 100 backstroke (time 1:07.00), the 200-metre indivdual medley (time 2:25.6), the 200-metre freestyle (time 2:07.10, a new games record) and the 4 X 200-metre and the 4 X 100-metre freestyle relays. British Columbia was the Outstanding winner in the competi- tion, beating Alberta by over 300 roints.
