The desclopment permit was ap- proved with the condition that district, staff and council are satistied that othe aparounent’s gables will not block the view of homeowners to the rear. Municipal planner Steve Nicholls felt the risk to the resi- dents’ views was minimal. Architects for the project's developer, Valdex Development Inc., determined that the homes with views that would have been affected have already been obscured by trees or Irwin Park School gymnasium. But councilmen were concerned with a letter from P.E. Pleming of 2437 King Street, who is worried that the new development may obliterate what is left of his view, which was badly affected by the building of an earlier structure to the west. “We should do everything we can to assist people in maintaining their views,’’ said Ald. David Finlay, who wondered if there could be an alteration or disposal of the gables, which are peaked for aesthetic purposes. “But we have had so many buildings erected that are not aesthetically pleasing,” countered Ald. Rod Day. Day asked Macdonald Ar- chitects’ represertative, Abdulah Jehman, if the building could be storey apartinent for 24120 and might be passible, although the impaet on aceess to parking and the quality of the building would have to be considered.
