Folkfest shows feature cultures of many nations | FREE ADMISSION pro- grams of the North Van- couver Folkfest ‘83, spon- sored by the North Van- couver Chamber of Com- merce, will be presented each evening from Fmday, June 24 to Thursday, June 30 at the North Vancouver Centennial Theatre. The curtain time is 8 p.m. except Saturday, when the curtain time is 7 p.m. On Friday, June 24 the opening attraction will be the world famous North Vancouver Youth Band. Also participating will be the B.C. Classical Belly Dancers and the well known Kalaya Dancers. Saturday, June 25 will be Caledonian Night, with Nann and Nancy Wilson presen- ting Scottish dancing. Sunday, June 26 will have the return of the Wright Dancers, the Sicilian Folkloristico group and the Estonian Rhythm Gymnasts. Monday, June 27 will be an international evening with the Music Makers, the Polish Karpaty and Zgoda Dancers, a French Canadian presentation, the Irish Cultural Society Dancers, the Olaza Spanish Dancer and music by the Associa- tion of Vietnamese Refugees. Tuesday, June 28 the evening will open with the beautiful Sweet Adelines followed by the singers and dancers of the Church of Jesus Chnst Latter Day Saints, the Dancing Water Kelpies, the Ukranian Ban- dura Ensembie, and _ the Vancouver Chinese Music Association. Wednesday, June 29 will have the return of the Maple Leaf Choir and the North Shore Chamber Music Society as well as the Scot- tish Bluebells, West Indian Piano Soloist and the Greek Leventia Dancers. Thursday, June 30 will conclude the week with the Silver Stars Choir, the Audrey Walker Dancers, the Japanese Tatsumi Dancers, the Weavers Square Dancers, Folksinger Francis Xavier and the Nahanee In- dian Dance Group. June 30 # has been designated by the Chamber's Folkfest Committee as Canada Day celebrations. Folkfest Chairman Stella Jo Dean explains that the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce sponsors these Free Admission programs as its contribution to interna- tional understanding by pro- viding an opportunity to ap- preciate the cultures of many lands.
