44 have journeyed up

the Squamish

Highway to Paradise Valley for a week long visit to
the North Vancouver Outdoor School.

To thousands of children it
was an exciting and adven-
turous learning experience, to
the teachers, it was an in-
valuable education tool.

An unforgettable five days
that will stay in the child’s
memory long after they have
graduated.

Now, if Trustee Marjorie
Goodman and Ross Regan
get their way, the Outdoor
School could face closure

Although both trustees say
they support the concept,
they have major questuons
about the feasability of
Operating the school in
‘‘tumes of restraint.’’

‘‘We are living in a time of
economic reality, we have to
weigh where we spend the

money ,’” said Goodman.
**What might be needed 1s
a plebiscite... I think a
plebiscite would be in
order,’’ Goodman said.
Regan added that ‘‘this

(Outdoor School) becomes a

risk in the global picture.’’

The Outdoor School offers
a curriculum based program
so that students do not lose
school time while they are at
the outdoor facility.

Other programming _in-
cludes the ‘‘Save the
Salmon’’ hatchery, a mini
farm, pond and = stream
ecology, limnology, forest
ecology, orienteering,
geology, outdoor living
skills, meteorology, snow

studies and bird studies.
According to D.S. Robert-
son, Director of the School,
the budget for the 1984 was
reduced by $50,000.
