Al0-Sunday News, July 27, 1980 inquiring reporter . by. Ellsworth st Dickson | It’s that time of summer when boats take to the water in search of the ever tasty salmon, although there seems to be fewer and fewer of them to catch. The sports fisherman is coming under fire which was previously unknown, over his or her right to catch a part of what may be a dwindling resource. - This issue the Inquiring Reporter asks: “Should salmon derbies be abolished?” Don Martin North Vancouver I think the fisheries should decide this. If they say no derbies then they should be stopped. Bev Patterson North Vancouver No, 1 don’t think they should abolish them but p . there should be a limit to the total number of fish allowed to be caught in a derby. Terry Bulm Winnipeg No, they shouldn't be abolished because — the sports fisherman has as much mght fish anyone lo as Oscar Ubtias North Vancouver As long as there ts a limit on the number of fish caught then there is no problem Sid Wickens North Vancouver No there ey cnougeh salmon there to allow the derbys to continue [he salmon will ome back - involves Audiences of 200 for each taping session FROM PAGE A1 cities have bought the rights to the show. The producers say negotiations are also under way with Canadian networks and stations. In addition, Catalena will be producing the Stan Kann Show for a third season at Panorama Studios, following the shows successful two- year run on CTV. And a second, all-Canadian game show called “Pitfall” ts also going into production this fall for sale worldwide. The Monty Hall show live audience participation and will bring approximately 200 audience members to Panorama Studios for each of the three daily videotaping sessions. The present Catalena production schedule _ will employ over 50 full-time staff on what Ron Eiboff, vice-president finange and administration, describes as “a permanent basis.” Built 16 years ago with the aim of attracting a long-term film industry to West Van, Panorama Studios have hitherto had a history of economic ups and downs — mostly the latter. They have been used only sporadically. in the main by transient film producers who sometimes departed leaving a trail of bad debts behind them. Eiboff is confident that all this is now past and that the studios are finally in business for the long haul with his own Company. Catalena Productions Inc. is a wholly-owned Canadian company established in 1971 and originally specializing in educational and _ training films for film) boards and private instituvonal chents. It entered the entertainment market three years ago with the production of the CTV's Stan Kann Show. The two principals are both North Shore residents. Catalena’s president is Ian MacLennan of West Van- couver. Eiboff lives in North Vancouver. West Vancouver has long declared itself off limits to any obnoxious form of in- dustry. If the busy work schedule promised for Panorama Studios over the next several years comes to pass, the original “clean industry” concept behind their construction in the 1960s will at long last be realized 2154 W 41 St 1604 Lonsdate 701 W Georgie Kerrledate North Vancouver (Pacific Centre) 266-7101 986-1311 689-0611 North Shore Credit Unions will be closed Saturday, August 2nd.
