Robber hits Caulfeild liquor store

A MACHETE- WIELDING
man recently robbed the
Caulfeild Plaza liquor store
in West Vancouver.

The lone robber was wearing
a ski mask when he entered the
store at approximately 9 p.m. on
March 4, according to a West
Vancouver Police spokesman.

The robber made off with an
undisclosed amount of money,
the spokesman said.

The male suspect is described
as being between 25 and 30 years
of age. six feet (1.8 m) tall. and
weighing 180 to 200 pounds (81
to Of kg).

No one was injured during the
robbery. .

The West Vancouver Police
ure requesting information
regarding any vehicles seen
parked on the Caulfeild exit ramp
eastbound from the Trans-Canada
Highway at about the time of the
incident.

N. Van insurance agent jailed

A NORTH Vancouver insurance agent wis recently jailed 18 months in
connection with 24 counts of fraud.

Ernest Edward Schmidt, 53, pleaded guilty to the charges, which were
laid against him in connection with incidents in 1992.

The Finance Ministry’s Financial Institutions Commission conducted a
10-month investigation of Schmidt Insurance Underwriting Corp., which
led to the charges against Schmidt. According to the commission, Schmidt,
« North Vancouver resident, issued policies and collected premiums nam-
ing Non-Marine Underwriters at Lloyd's of London as insurers.

The investigation revealed that Lloyd's had not heard of Schmidt and
the insurance policies were fictitious, according to the commission.

The policies were sold to owners of heavy-duty logging equipment.
