“COAST Mountain Bus
Company has announced plans
for transit rerouting during this
wecekend’s Lions Gate Bridge
closures.

To press time the bridge was sched-
uied to be closed to traftic from Friday,
Sept. 8 at 10 p.m. util 6 am. Monday,

There will be an extra shuttle service
running from Park Koyal to Lonsdale
Quay and along the Lonsdale Corridor.

A shuttle bus will also run: between
Cordova Street, across from Waterfront
Station, and Stanley Park, replacing the
#240 bus route though downtown.

West Vancouver buses will connect to
the SeaBus via bays #1 and #10 at the
Lonsdale Quay bus loop.

SeaBus services will be increased to
15-minute intervals from 11 a.m. to 6

ders for the service.

Velo-City have been operat
ing a shuttle service which fer-
ries cyclists and their bikes
across the Lions Gate Bridge
during, sidewalk closures since
December 1999,

Project spokeswoman Pam
Ryan said the decision was
made Sept. 1 to ask contractors
to submit proposals,

The proposal deadline is
Sept. 20. Ryan said a contract
would be awarded before the
end of the month.

Bridge project management
met recently with concerned
members of the Vancouver
Area Cycling Coalition and
North = Vancouver's Joint
Bicyele Action Committee to
discuss issues of shuttle safety
and reliability.

A number of cyclists were
dissatisfied with the service.

Ryan said the Lions Gate
office was. satisfied with the
safety of Velo-City’s service,
but felt che reliability was “not
100%.”

She said the project office
would be looking for more
stringent language in the new
contract regarding service and
reliability levels.

Ryan said the timing of the
decision to invite a tender was
coincidental.

“The contract was coming
up for completion anyway,” she
said. “It’s not an insignificant
amount of money. We would
have had to put it out for ten-
der anyway,” she said.
