Matthew Smith Contributing Columnist | LUCK. Good, bad, or dumb luck. The belief in luck is a subtle pat- tern in the weave of our attitudes ~ about life. It’s an old attitude, going back to ancient times. Some objects — a rab- -bit”'s foot, horseshoe or four leaf clover — were thought to bring good lu - Today commercials try to keep the | idea alive, that we will find luck in -driving the right car, a lottery or ata casino. :° But luck does not exist. The result is a trust that Ged has a purpose for us that, even though it may not be immediately apparent, is working out for good. The result of a heart formed by the Spirit of God is a hope that endures even in the hard times. It is like building a house on the solid rock of trust, rather than unstable sand of wishing for good luck.
