There has recently been a con-
siderable amount if discussion, pro
and con. Jabout the proposal to
install and; operate a cadar-photo
‘device for the purpose of identily-
ing speéding vehicles and mailing
a summons to the registered owner
of the vehic

One of the objections to these
devices is that: they will merely act
as a “cush cow" for government
revenue purposes.

While | would agree that exces-
sive speeding is a cause of many

aceldents, puor driving habits con :

tribute to the, growing Jevel of
vehicular accidents, and my own
personal observations lead me to
feel chat poor driving habits,
speeding. tailgating, rapid lane
changing. failure to yield right of
way, to observe | stop signs and traf-
fic lights, ete. are, to a large extent
indulged in. by younger . age
groups. 4

My sister and her family recent-
ly visited us from. ‘Texas, and when
we mentioned invonversation that
our 16-year-old granddaughter had

". recently obtained her driving

license after completing a driver's
training course they were amazed
to. hear that this course had cost
our granddaughter several hundred
dollars,

«Her daughter took a driver
training course in high school at no
cost to the family. and obtained her
driving license: by her 1Sth birth-
day.

There are practical courses that
should be ineluded in the curricu-
lum of our high schools in order to
prepare children for today’s world

leaving school. In View. of the
number. of vehicles on our rouds,
_and the fact that thé great majority
of citizens: will drive'a vehicle at
some point: during their tives. ‘it
would ‘seem. that. driver training
-courses belong in this group.
