Council has agreed to amend its
Environmental Protection and
Preservation Bylaw,

mental bylaw in British Columbia
and is often used as a model by fed-
eral and provincial agencies,

The bylaw addresses four major
areas: stream corridors; soils; sloping
terrain and trees:

i for stream corridors the bylaw
established two types of streams —
fish-bearing and non-fish bearing.

Amendments will recite this sec-
tion to Aquatic Areas and expand the
bylaw to cover the upland area along
the foreshore.

The waterfront is defined as the
area 30 metres back of the high-
water mark and any work done in
this area would undergo a review
process and require an aquatic per-
mit, -

@ Douglas Firs, Western Red Cedars
and Western Hemlocks having a
diameter greater than 0.75 metres

and Western Yew trees having a.

diameter greater than 0.25 metres
would all require. a permit before
they could be cut.
