By Elizabeth Collings News Reporter They both say they should have won the provincial final of the Remington Family Tennis Cham- pionships earlier this year but didn’t, losing their title to the mother-daughter team of Leona and Caroline Sporer. And then they say they shouldn’t have won the national final of the Remingtons against the Sporers but did, successfully defending their national title. “‘We had a very, very close match,"’ says Pam Hunter, 57, of their 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory. “T think we were very lucky to win it, actually,"’ she says. ‘It kept sort of swinging, mostly in their direction, but we won it!' Playing at the National Tennis Centre in Toronto on the Labor Day weekend, Hunter and her daughter, Fought, 26, were trail- ing 3-0, 3-1 and 3-1 in each set. In the wbird set, Hunter and Fought dug themselves out of that deficit to 5-3, then tied it up at 5-5 before winning at a final 7-5. In their three matches leading up to the final, they lost only five games. The win earns the Hollyburn tennis duo a secand trip to the In- ternadonal Remington Family Championships, this time in Por- tugal next April. Last year in Florida, Hunter and) Fought) reached the semi- finats before losing to a Great Britain team) and then were final- ists with the Canadian team in the Kiam Cup. This sear, Hunter says they will prepare ao finde bit differently, focusing oon the psychological aspect to help smooth out their Rerves,. “We seem to be almost better when we're down which is good in some ways but seultye also got to close out the omatan.”?
