here are two very impor- tant, successful and happy gentlemen this week in West Vancouver. Joy Metccaife tells ail ... Businessmen Helmut and Hugo Eppich reside in the British Pro- perties, but their business is head- quartered in Richmond. They’re the founders and owners of The Ebco Group of Companies, and on Tuesday night at the Hyatt Regen- cy, before a crowd of 450 black-tie guests at the B.C. Business Maga- zine’s fifth annual awards dinner, they were named B.C. Business Magazine’s Entrepreneurs of the Year for 1990. The identical twin brothers were born in Germany and started Ebco Industries, which began as a simple tool and die shop, shortly after their arrival. Today the Ebco Group of Companies is a rnulti- faceted international business that had annual sales in 1989 of $100 million dollars. According to one of the judges, Barbara Rae, what sets Ebco apart from other business concerns is that the Eppich brothers have a commitment to multiculturatism and have 48 different ethnic groups among their 900 employees. Congratulations!... eke Someone else who's always been pretty successful is West Van’s amiable Terry David Mulligan, TV host, broadcaster, media personal- ity and actor. He’s just back from an interview assignment in England with actor Mel Gibson, who co-starred with Hollywood’s Goldie Hawn in the suspense comedy, Bird on a Wire, which was filmed in and around the Lower Mainland last year. The film opens here officially on May 18. The reason that Terry had to cross the ocean for the chit-chat was because Mel Gibson is in London to headline the film of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which also co-stars the Academy Award- winning Glenn Close. per person per night dbl. vce. 2 nights & more ¢ Yeoman’s Fare Dinner ¢ English Country Breakfast High Tea or Lunch ¢ Luncheon Cruise Oah Bay Beach Hotel ictoria’s only seaside hotel ~~~ 1175 BEACH DRIVE, VICTORIA. TDM finally arrived home to stay last Sunday night! ene The Stardust Ball certainly lived up to its billing as An Evening to Remember at the Hotel Vancouver last Thursday night. It was the first fundraising occasion for the Foundation for Immune Diseases and it was one happy bash! The three ladies from North Van resident Dean Regan’s Ain’t Misbehavin’, Lovie Eli, Lovena Fox and Sibel Thrasher, were front and centre along with jazz pianist Linton Garner, Kate Hammett Vaughn, the orchestra of Mark Hasselbach and many others. It was under the chairmanship of Patrick and Alison Reid, and many notable celebrities attended. Some from the North Shore in- cluded the Hon. Russ Fraser and his wife, Jone, who was in a vivid bejewelled blue gown; Sam Yehia, who's about to add to his varied business interests; hotel consultant Doug Clark and his Vera; and tlonde Diane Forsythe, whose new black dress had the prettiest off- the-shoulder neckline! Hollywood’s prolific song-writer Burt Bacharach was staying there as a guest, skiing the slopes, just like everybody else, jogging about and dining at the popular restau- rants. But Friday evening, he sud- denly sat down at the grand piano, and for the next 40 minutes, sang and played almost ali of his mem- orable hits, like. Raindrops and That’s What Friends Are For. Diane, wife of weaithy devel- oper, Jim Forsythe of Metrotown fame, was so entranced, that she just draped herself over the piano the entire time listening to the ar- tist at work! Also in the glittery Stardust Bowl crowd were the elegant direc- tor of Business and the Arts, Roberta Weiser, pert art gallery owner Diane Farvis, Ali McGraw- lookalike Barbara Jo Macintosh, busy Brian Calder and co-host Bob Scragys, who assisted in the organization of Friday's seventh annual International Foundation for the Arts gala at the Hotei Van, and the attractive sisters, Lindsay and Dale Mearns.
