Flames drop behind Buckeroos IN AN important four-point game to decide fourth place, the North Shore Winter Club Flames came up flat Thursday in Port Co- quitlam, losing 8-6 to the Buckeroos and dropping to fifth spot in the West Coast Junior Hockey League standings, one point behind the Bucks. After PoCo opened the scoring two minutes into the period, Rick Rougeau combined with John Cox and Brad Costa midway through the period to pull the teams even at one. But before the period ended, PoCo added two unanswered tallies for a 3-1 lead after one. The Flames were out.cored 3-i again in the middle trame with Wade Bartok accounting for the only gual for the focals, scoring unassisted late in the period. Trailing 6-2 heading into the final 20 minutes, the Flames rallied in the third period, outscoring the opposition four goals to two. Kevin Buhr scored a shorthand- ed goal from Scott Gordon and Bartok early in the period and then Dave Atkinson closed out the scor- ing with a natural hat-trick, tally- ing at 13:06, 19:31 and then his last goal with four seconds remain- ing in the game. Picking up assists on the goals were Bartok, Buhr, Rougeau and Andrew Wilson with a pair. The Flames will have the oppor- tunity to avenge their loss to the Buckeroos when they return to Port Coquitlam for a rematch on Feb. 15. PeeWees go to finals THE NORTH Vancouver Taylormotive PeeWee A's finished off the regular season with a well-deserved 5-2 victory on Saturday over the Van- couver Thunderbirds. Heading into the game, the team was advised by team manager Norm Loranger that a win would secure first place in the Greater Vancouver Con- ference. Early in the first period Julien Jorgenson opened the scoring with his first of two back-to-back goals only to see the Thunderbirds fight back to tie the score 2-2 by the end of the first period. Lada Hampeis opened the second period with a_ goal followed by Scot Dickson’s back-to-back goals. Strachan Hartley had two assists for North Vancouver while Jeff Loranger was called upon to stop 14 shots for the win. The victory assures North Vancouver of a place in the G.V.C. playoffs which start March |}. All play-off games will be hosted by the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association.
