2% cups brown sugar, packed

3 cups all-purpose flour

Ys teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon cloves

1 tablespoon cinnamon

Ya teaspoon allspice

Soften butter and whip until
fluffy. Add brown sugar and whip
until well combined. Beat in the
eggs, one or two at a time until
well blended — no egg showing.

Sift the dry ingredients together
and add to butter mixture with a
big spoon. This is hard work and
you may need to call for another
arm to lend a hand.

Turn flour mixture into
prepared fruit and stir until com-
pletely combined. This is even
tougher to mix so take your time.
