REAL ESTATE Training program aims to improve professionalism LOOKING TO the future, B.C.’s housing construction industry is placing increased emphasis on_ professional and academic training among builders. With rising consumer ex- pectations, complex building Tegulations and increased technology, the builder must now be a knowledgable and skilled professional. At the same time, because the business of building homes is competitive and diverse, builders must not only be good at construction, they must also be experts in such fieids as business, advertis- ing, public relations and technology. 4S @ result, a new image of professionalism among builders has emerged and this has been in due, in large part, to the efforts of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of B.C. (CHBA-BC) and their Cer- tified Professional Builders Program. Initiated in 1989, for the first time in Canada, the Certified Professional Builder (CPB) designation means that a duilding com- pany employs at least orie graduate of the CPB Train- ing Program. As a graduate, an individual hes shown at least five years experience in the residential construction industry, including at least three years of direct “hands-on” experience.
