in the state — rent a car. Spend

some time in Tucson — be sure to
‘visit - the Sonora Museum, just out-
side. Drive to Bisbee and have
lunch at the Copper Queen.

Perhaps the biggest feature of
Arizona in the winter is lovely
warm days and chilly nights.
Unlike Mexico or Hawaii, you can
sleep without air conditioning. Just
open your window! Maybe it’s my
age, but I love a cold bedroom
with fresh air pouring in.

A quick fact for golfers: Green
fees average between $24 and $43.
Worth taking your clubs.

Cruise ships are one thing, — this
is another. From Sept. 22 to Oct.
1, the Vancouver Maritime
Museum is offering a cruise on
B.C.’s oldest sailing ship.

The Maple Leaf is heading
through Discovery Passage and
Johnstone Strait to Robson Bight
to track the Orca whales.

Some of the nicest people wear Tilleys — which | think is why
- Strangers wearing Tilleys so often strike up a conversation,

especially in faraway lands.

Yvon is a'great supporter of Tilley Endurables, partially

sings or chants’. And he does — Yvon's an auctioneer!

“I've got the money; I've only had one wife!”

There are a number of things I
prefer enn to do. Included is sky
diving, hang-gliding and riding a
mountain bike. : .

However, since my oldest
daughter has a bike, I was caught
short by a warning from Ottawa.

Most mountain bikes have a
system of cantilever brakes. Hers
does.

It seems that the two brake lines,
running down from the

handlebars, have a tendency te -
relax. and get friendly with the —

“knobby” tire.

If this happens the rider goes for
an unscheduled nose-dive. If
you’re scooting around the country
on a mountain bike, take a look at
it. Racing bikes aren’t affected —
they have side-pull brakes.

Here’s a ‘‘don’t miss’’ location.
We were there last year and it was
magnificent.

On Sept. 22, Virginia Street in
Reno will be closed.

Under the arch the Reno
Philharmonic Orchestra will again
give its now-famous concert:

It is just so wonderful you might
find me, as last year, curled up on
the ground — with someone’s little
kid parked on my lap. Seating is
limited

Reno has a lot of clubs where

may not have the opportunity to -
play the music they love. That's:

why ‘the Philharmonic is so good.
So'is the opera in Reno.
Anyway, even though we were

freezing. to death and equipped.
with a stray kid, we listened to the.

entire concert last year. Be there,
