JAPANESE student Koichi Ishinaka. CITY LIBRARY Sign up The students will visit North Vancouver for three weeks, from Feb. 19 to March 11, to learn first hand about Canadian culture and to practice their English. The students are sponsored by INTRAX (International Training and Exchange), an organization that has been working with foreign exchange students for the past 20 years and has found the homestay concept to be the best method to promote cultural exchange and in- ternational understanJing. The students will study 12 hours a week at Karen Magnussen Rec- reation Centre. Several local activ- ities are also planned each week, as well as three full-day excursions. Most weekends are free to spend with the host families to develop an understanding of Canadian life. Host families need to be inter- ested in learning about another culture and sharing theirs. They should be willing to accept a stu- dent into their family for three weeks, encourage him or her to become a part of the family routine and activities, and provide warmth and understanding. Anyone interested in becoming a host family should call Sherry Sutherland, program coordinator, for more information.
