34 - Wednesday, April 8,. 1987 - North Shore News - NEW CAREERS College offers media program FORMER CAPILANO College Students were among the thou- sands of people who helped put together pavilions for Expo 86. Graduates of the Media Resources program contributed to displays for the Air Canada and B.C. pavilions, among others. The Media Resources program offers courses in film, photography, video, audio and computer graphics to people who are interested in media careers in the public or private sector. People who take Media Resources are typically those who have had some experience with media, such as amateur photography or filmmaking or cable TV, or who are generally in- terested in the field of communica- tions. During their two years of full- time study, Media students take courses which offer opportunity for hands-on work. Video is taught in the college’s television studio and classes are kept in touch with developments in the industry through field trips to local film studios, radio stations and other locations. “The film industry and distance education are two areas that are expanding in B.C. right now, but improvements in technology are having an enormous impact on the entire field of communications and things are changing very quickly,”’ said program coordinator Anne Morley. . “Ten years ago, for instance, the rock video industry did not ex- ist, so it is hard for us to predict what new fields will be here 10 years from now. What we do know is that the students who succeed are those who are excited by life and the world around them.” Anyone who is interested in the Media Resources program is in- vited to attend an information meeting on Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in Room B145, Capilano College.
