Winter Club scores in court THE--NORTH Shore Winter club has scored in B.C. Supreme Court against the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association. The club successfully sought an injunction to keep its players on the ice after 28 players were benched by a PCAHA decision last March to“ limit. players to- playing - within .their ‘areas and with their original associations. The injunction, signed by Supreme Court Justice John Spencer last Tuesday, pre- vents the PCAHA or any of its member . associations from taking any direct or. indirect steps to prevent the Winter Club, its players or agents from participating fully in the association’s ac- tivities. Further, the injunction prevents the association from imposing any sanctions against the club, its players or members that. may be related to its ordinary association with the PCAHA. | “That's this season looked after,’’ said North Shore Winter Club lawyer Don Sorochan. ‘‘Now we will at- tempt to sit down and nego- tiate. “Certainly we don’t want a trial, that’s ridiculous,’’ Sorochan continued. ‘‘There are a lot of good guys on the PCAHA and they mean well, It’s just they’re misdi- rected in our opinion.” The problem began when the PCAHA decided two teams from the Lower Mainland would advance to the provincial champion- ships instead of one. Other members of the association said they wouldn’t allow this if there continued to be the. possibility of players moving among .Lower Mainland associations. But the Winter Club argues families who join the club should have the right to transfer their children into the club’s program. PCAHA president Ken § Burry was unavailable. for comment.
