school board budgets
by municipal councils.

The mayor sought council
endorsation of a resdlution
to be presented to the Union
of B.C. Municipalities
calling for municipal council
approval of school board
“overages”.

He withdrew the proposal
after it failed to win support

Board Budgets.” an
Alderman Lanskail

commented that since the
school board is responsible
for its budget, the “real
answer” is to have the board
collect school taxes.

This may cost “marginally
more” in collection but the
public, Lanskail said, would
be able: to differentiate
municipal taxes from school
taxes. With taxes in a lump
sum, the municipality often
gets blamed for tax increases
due to school costs.

controls away from one body
