FEDERAL FUNDING A VANCOUVER film maker and entrepreneur will receive a repayable contribution of $446,400 from the Western Diver- sification Fund to commercialize the Cable Track Camera Systems, an apparatus that allows motion picture camera operations to ob- tain specialized film shots over rough terrain. James Rodnunsky, a local film maker, needed tracking film coverage of downhill skiers for a project he was working on. When he couldn’t find anything on the market which would enable him to get his shots, he decided to devel- op the technology himself. He designed an apparatus, simi- lar to a chair lift, in which a cam- efa operator rides while filming. The prototype was tested on alpine ski slopes and in two feature films. The resulting test footage was so promising that Rodnunsky decided to commercialize his pro- totype for general use in the film industry. He teamed up with Emmy- winning film maker Pierre de Lespinois, to form No. 26 Cor- porate Ventures Ltd. The com- pany then hired Weir-Jones Engineering Consultants Lid. of Vancouver to re-engineer the orig- inal prototype to meet the technical demands of the market- place. CBS lac. of New York has al- ready expressed interest in Cable Track. Two commercial versions of the system will be developed, tested and refined through the winter of 1991, covering the RATE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BUSINESS BRIEFS World Cup skiing circut and other international sporting events.
