Mayor Barbara Sharp of the City of North Vancouver and Mayor Don Bell of the District of North Vancouver turned on the fights for the Festival of Christmas Lights at 7 pam. last night. In a brief ceremony, Al Brown, president of the Rotary Club of Lions Gate, presented a cheque to Sharp and Bell and to) Louise Charles, who is chair of the North Shore Youth Safe Shelter Task Force. Many businesses and media organizations con- tributed to the Youth Safe Shelter project and spon- sored the trees that will be on display in the gardens. : ival’s opening evening festivities included children’s entertainers Laurel and Jan, strolling carollers, the North Shore Chorus, balloon animals and face painting. And visitors who contributed $1 to the shelter also got to take part in an old-fashioned horse drawn carriage ride. Santa also stopped by to visit. For the entire month of December the lights will be blazing in the gardens and the public is invited to stroll through and enjoy the sight. Admission to the gardens is free, but cash donations will be gratefully accepted throughout the Christmas Festival of Lights on behalf of the At-Risk Youth Rotary Club North Shore project. The gardens are open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. and the lights are turned on from 4:30 until. 9:30 p.m. except Christmas Day and New Years Day.
