raises the

about the sound will draw you
in, Guitarist Ryan spits out
high-end cut and paste lyrics
while drummer Kurt handles
the rhythm detail with bassist
Todd Fancey.

Within che 13 tracks they
cover a lot of territory without
losing their own identity. The
surreal edge of the lyrical con-
fet i: counterbalanced bya
healthy respect for popcraft.

Limblifter has slid they
were trying to make a record
that was missing from thcir
collection and they've suc-
ceeded. An original band that
never lets radio-friendly for-
Hones get in the way of what

re trying to say.

The band’ headline the
CFOX NewMusicWest show-
case at the Commodore
tonight with Veal, DSK,
Templar and Default also on
the bill.

Bkx*k* Mazinaw —
Living with Murply (Thin
Man Records).

Solo artist Steve Wright
gathered together a group of
musician friends to create this
one-off indie release. But the
project turned out so well
drummer Matt Brain, bassist
Mike Evans and lap-steel gui-
tarist john Wood have decided
to continue on with the
singer/songwriter as Mazinaw.

The film is narrated by
Sook-Yin Lee — well-known
to Vancouverites as the for-
mer lead singer of local band
Bob’s Your Uncle — and
executive produced by David .
Vaisbord, whose own film
about the community of -
Britannia Beach is set to air
on VTV later this year.

Wright produced and
financed the recording project
himself at Beatty Lane Studios
last summer, Mazinaw (an
Algonquin word meaning
“picture drawing book”) is a
lake in Ontario where Wright
spent ume in his youth.

The great production
showcases Wnght’s songs with
guests such as trumpeter John
Korsrud filling out the sound.
Mazinaw performs tonight at
the Rusty Gull as part of
NewMusicWest with Locos
Bravos and Suzanne Wilson.
