Retired scientist receives honor NORTH Vancouver resident and physicist Dr. Klaus Rieckhoff is a 1998 honorary degree recipient at SFU. Rieckhoff has not only watched the university grow into the respected institution it is today, but has actively helped it get there, says an SFU press release. Despite heavy research and teaching demands, he’s been a contributor to university governance and adminis- tration. Rieckhoff sat on senate for a record-setting 28 years, and on the board of governors for 12 years. He served as acting dean of science, and associate and acting dean of graduate studies. In 1982, the university recognized his contributions by renaming the former senate chambers in his honor. Rieckhoff retired in 1993, but continues his active intercst in the affairs of the university. The university’s 1998 spring convocation ceremonies take place on June 4-5. Other degree designates include retired high school principal Robert Carkner, former B.C. cabinet minister Stan Hagen, physicists Albert Overhauser, and Vancouver business executive Milton Wong.
