A FIVE-YEAR contract agree-
ment has been reached with
Capilano Highway Services to
provide road and bridge main-
fenance in the Howe Sound
service area.

The contract is effective Oct. 26,
according to Transportation and
Highways Minister Jackie Pement.

Capilano Highway Services has
provided road and bridge miainie-
nance in Howe Sound since 1988,

Said Pement, “This contract
ensures continued high quality road
maintenance at good value to tax-
payers.”

Capilano Highway Services
entered into negotiations with the
ministry after its pruposal was rated
the highest.

The rating was based ona set of
criteria which included a manage-
ment plan, financial and operational
structure and bidding price.

Sixty per cent of the ministry's
evaluation is based on the service
plan. Forty per cent of the evalua-
tion is based on the bid price.

According to the Ministry of
Transportation and Highways,
details of the contract, including
bidding price, will be released when
agreements in all 28 service arcas —
throughout the province have been
completed.

The Howe Sound service area
includes 1,099 lane-kitometres of

- highway and 129 bridges. The’ ser-

vice area extends from the Cassiar
Connector to D’Arcy.
