through Bridge Studios) do what
they can to get features in their fa-

Although it’s an issue that clearly
gets under his skin, Alderman in-
sists it is an isolated issue and not
indicative o’ the working relation-

. ship between film industry per-
sonnel.”

Now the fourth largest film pro-
duction centre after Los Angeles,

_New York and Teronto, B.C. is
tucky'in that it hasn’t suffered the

same “burn-out as Los Angeles
and Toronto.” -

But he says it must be careful

“As an industry, | think it’s in-
cumbent upon us to put forward a
real good foot and be good citi- -
zens about what we're doing...but
government should tell people ~
why it’s in their best interest to let
us block an intersection for five
minutes.”

Alderman, who frequenily flops
his crossed legs on top of his desk
like a film noir private eye, is sur-
prisingly optimistic for someone
who's worked in the film business
for many years.

“The industry has never lost its
magic for me. Mind you, I’ve

become cautious with some of the

people. But I’ve never been jaded
about the industry.”

While it can be a bumpy ride at
times, one gets the feeling that
Alderman still finds the roller-
coaster ride thrilling and has no
plans to get off soon.
