The traditional favorites are giadiolus, dahlias and begonias but there are many more. For in- stance, try putting some Eucomis (the pineapple plant) in pots around the patio. Or set a group of Acidanthera among the peren- nials. The stately Canna is a welcome addi- tion to the summer garden. It needs a sunny, warm spot and will grow well in a pot or the border. They often look best among ground-covering plants or in the perennial border. Oxalis deppei, the rosette oxalis, resernbles a four-leaf clover and blooms all summer. Tigridia, Sprekelia and Crocosmia will add visual interest to the summer garden.
