WEST VAN’S Andy Thoma is one happy dude. He’s the tall, tanned and terrific singer, who was probably the last entertainer on the stage of the old Cave Theatre, just before it was demolished. He’s performed all over the West Coast, especially in clubs in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. And like country singer, Mel Tillis, Andy also happens to stutter. Never one to let this minor handicap stand in his way, Andy recently completed the real estate course and has joined Bell Realty. The item is that he’s just won the listing for a very important piece of property. It’s the home of his good friend, singer-composer and ecology-activist, Terry Jacks, which is beautifully situated on the West Van waterfront. The price is a nice, round $1,350,000... Other gossipy news from the tal! Thoma brothers is that Michael Thoma, a very successful actor, has decided to make a change in his life and switch careers. He recently wound up his co-starring roie in the London stage pro- duction of ‘‘The Caine Mutiny’’, with Hollywood’s Charlton Heston and Ben Cross. “Mutiny...” was produced by Fraser Heston, Charlton’s son, who used to work at the Vancouver Aquarium. Prior to the production opening in London’s West End, the play had enjoyed a long run in Los Angeles. While Mike was in L.A., he met a strikingly attractive young woman and th-y became very close friends. After the show closed in England, Michael decided he would rather be a writer than an actor and he flew back to L.A. and that’s where you'll find him, having a ball with his lady love, Fawn Hall! Ironically, that makes them the writer and the shredder!... ws kie West Van PRiman, Don Shwery, has had his hands full over the past few weeks. First he organized the $1,000-a-plate Tommy LaSorda luncheon at the Pan Pacific Hotel as a fund raiser for the Gordic Howe Foundation For Disabled Athletes. . He was aided and abetted in this enterprise by speaker the Socred's John Reynolds, and Doug Mowatt, MLA and bossman of The B.C. Paraplegic Foundation. A few days ago, Don was busily working on the opening of the se- cond Iccation for one of Vancouver's long-established businesses, ‘Millar & Coe, the fine china, crystal and silverware store at 419 West Hastings. It’s been in that same location for the past 77 years! Last week, the Gazda Family finally opened another store in Richmond and Donald handled all the opening pizzazz!... soe Speaking of pizzazz, that was definitely the scene at the roast for Murray Pezim at the Hyatt last week. On stage were the veteran’ comedians Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Norm Crosby, Pat MacCormack, Red Buttons, and big- gies, Don Rickles and Joan Rivers, a tiny person with a very big mouth. She thought we should be honoring the Pez's three wives rather than Murray. Referring to the wives, she pointed out, ‘“‘There’s St. Bernice, St. Marilyn, and St. Susan, or rather, the white Robin Givens!" In the crowd of 900, I spotted West Vanners, Vancouver Fire Chief, Don Pamplin, who was on the dais, and who made Murray an hon- orary fire chief; Socred John Reynolds and wife Yvonne, who are about to become grandparents again. Seems that son, Mike and wife, Lisa, are infanticipating in September. They already have a little daughter, who'll be a year old in June. Angus Ree was there, along with Caulfeild’s gamesman, John Pozer and his spritely wife, Darlene, and Yulanda Fazis, wife of developer, Moe Faris. Yulanda was telling me that cousin, Joe Hussein and his wife Joanne, have finally been able to move into their gorgeous new Ver- sailles-West mansion on the West Van waterfront, That’s the good news. The bad news is that their equally posh condo at Whistler was just demolished in a fire. It was not a happy 50th birthday surprise for Joe! . Wealthy British Properties realtor Bob Lee was also at the bash. He and wife, Lity had to be just a titch uncomfortable with Don Rickles’ supposedly funny, rude and insulting racial remarks during Rickles’ on-stage performance... Cn Well-known businessman and TV interviewer Ed Keate and ! spent a lovely afternoon chatting at the Verdicchio family’s popular Peppi’s Restaurant last Monday for Ed’s cablevision show. It surprised me to learn that Peppi’s is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month! Con- gratulations!... x et While it was too cold and windy to golf at Capilano while he was in town recently, comedian Bob Hope tells me that he’s planning a vaca- tion up here in June for fishing and will definitely hit the links at his second favorite golf club in the entire world!...Cheers! aaen YOU CAN'T STAKE IT WITH YOU WHAT HAPPENS when a normal girl from an eccen- tric and not-so-norma! fami- ly contemplates marriage with the scion of-a.conser- vative family of great wealth and prominence? : The result is a lot of fun provid- ed by West Vancouver Little Theatre at Presentation House, April 6 to 15. Twice made into a movie, You Can’t Take It With You, is being presented in all its hilarity by the 50-year-old West Vancouver theatre group, with a cast of 17 that has been gleaned from all over the Lower Mainland. The action centres around a strange family that believes in tak- ing life easy, with each member pursuing unusual interests and hobbies, from throwing darts to writing plays or printing and distributing circulars. They are asked to put aside their peculiarities for an evening so that the daughter of the family can entertain the family of her fiance. But disaster strikes when the young man’s folks show up a day early. The daughter is crushed and the whole bunch end up in jail. How they get out of that situa- tion is revealed during the play, being directed by West Van- couverite Nigel Williams. A seasoned director, he was able to jump right in when the company started putting the production together in January and began rehearsals mid-February. Williams is impressed with the cast, many of them being retired ~ professionals. Two of the lead roles are played by West Vancouverites Pattie Mc- Cauley and Tim Williams. **We’ve also got a= great backstage crew,’’ Williams em- phasized. Tickets are $8, or $6 for seniors and students. mse meee moe ne ee ese ss ' ADDRESS Theatre presents comedy ALAN GEORGE (left) and Al Naltis are two of the cast members in West Van Little Theatre’s upcoming production, the zany You Can't Take It With You, The comedy, directed by Nige!
