SMALL HOUSES on
small lots have a place
in North Vancouver Ci-
ty, even if City staff
aren't too happy with
the idea, say two City
aldermen.

Gary Payne and Ralph
Hall told council they
disagreed with a staff report
that recommended the City
should keep the present
minimum size for single
family home lots.

The two aldermen said
that many people no longer
need homes with three or
four bedrooms, but would
still like the privacy and in-
dependence of their own
home on their own lot.

“The size of lots and the
size of homes has to
decrease ,” Hall said.

Payne said the staff report
on small lots should have ex-
amined possible locations
for small lot houses, instead
of trying to show why small
lot subdivisions couldn't
work.

He said smali houses on
small lots could be mixed in
with normal size houses and
with other residential
developments, such as apart-
ment buildings and garden
homes.

In the report, the City’s
director of development and
licensing § services, Frank
Morris said small lots would
not necessarily be cheaper
than larger ones.
