Its setting is a Japanese gar- den nestled behind the home of Trisha Kania and Ted Allen. Although both enjoy it, Kania is, by far, more involved in its upkeep. “T love my work and she (Kania) loves her garden,” said Allen, a travel agent. In addition to the many hours she puts into the garden, Kania enjoys the assistance of Kunio Nunotani, who took the liberty of entering the garden in the Vancouver Japanese Gardeners Association . best garden competition. As it turned out, Kania’s spread was awarded second place in the Lower Mainland- wide contest. Although Kania says she would never have entered the garden herself, she is nevertheless pleased for Nunotani and its designer, 83- year-old Tom Wakahara. “It’s just recognition for them,” said Kania.
