The move came in a 4-3 vote by West Vancouver coun- cil Monday. Said West Vancouver's Arts Centre Trust (WVACT) chair- man Maggie Pappas, “It appears to me that the majori- ty of council voted down the possibility of the arts centre ever receiving any site, I'm astonished because within the Jast nwo weeks, every one of the councillors expressed full support, We feel misled and mistreated.” Last week, in a letter to countillors, Pappas asked them to withdraw their motion to consider Ambleside Park as a potential arts centre site. The notion to place a 42,000 sq. ft. centre at 13th and Marine Drive has been a controversial, One for area groups and residents. The cen- tre is to be built with privately donated funds. It could cost anywhere from $12 t $15 inillion. Originally, the Ambleside site and one at 22nd and Marine (the central recreation/community centre site) were to be considered in the district’s latest Recreation Miaster Plan. While the arrival time of the refugees is unknown to date, the North Shore Multicultural Society is seeking spon: orship groups for when they do. Kevin Gillies News Reporter NORTH Shore residents are eager to help Kosovar refugees. The North Shore Multicultural: Society was swamped by offers to help fast week when it went public with a plan to bring refugees here from their war-torn Balkan homes. “People are calling like crazy," said Golnaz Ali, the agency's host program coordinator. “The response was good.
