‘Nye House’ may face wrecker’s ball

heritage house’? has applied to the municipality for a
demolition permit for the property.

Following the Jan. 22 applica-
tion by Nile Developments inc. to
demolish Nye House, a 78-year-
old North Lonsdale house partial-
ly destroyed by fire in) August,
council moved to buy time for the
property.

Council froze the application by
calling upon a section of the pro-
vincial Heritage Conservation Act.
The demolition application was
subsequently put on hold umtil
Feb. 25.

meeting Wednesday to come up
with options for saving the house,
which is in the 200-block of East
Carisbrooke Road. Council will
receive the committee's report on

could hardly have been worse —
it’s heritage week this month and
it’s the district's centennial year.
And what do we have? A demoli-

heritage house.”

The 7,000-square-foot house
was designed by Harry Blackad-
der, one of the more prolific ar-
chitects at work on) the North
Shore before the First World War.
