why, as an author, I chose
historical matters as the sub-
ject of my books.

Clearly those posing this ques-
tion have found rates dry and i ir-
relevant and therefore find it at
least puzzling, if not outright in-
comorehensible, that anyone
should be interested by, let: alone
fascinated with, events they deem
far removed from the present.

In part the attraction is based
upon awareness of the cause-
and-effect nature of world events.
